After much protesting by Lawrence Livermore Lab employees about the
downgrading of their gold-plated retirement benefits under future corporate
management, a better deal has been forged.
A team of California and New Mexico Congress members, led by Rep. Ellen
Tauscher, D-Alamo, have pushed the Department of Energy to change key
provisions in its pension plans for Lawrence Livermore and Los Alamos
National laboratories.
"This is a huge victory for our security and for the lab employees who have
devoted their careers to keeping us safe," Tauscher said in a statement
Wednesday.

Subject: Livermore employee pressure reverses lowering of retirement benefits
To Congressional Staff members-
Oak Ridge continues to be the last place for fair treatment by the DOE,
as evidenced by this article. Please look at the excerpt of
an article from the California Bay area.

The LLNL employees won this victory through action of Senators and
representatives from California and New Mexico. Key
senators were Dominici, Feinsteins, and Bingamin.
Read the whole thing if you want to see how many Congressmen were involved.
I wonder when we will see this type of support in Oak Ridge. You
can see that Secretary of Energy Bodman does give in when forced.
It takes concerted action and belief in your people, not in belief in a
theoretical idealogy. Mr. Bodman is wrong in his thinking about
pensions because it is leading to marginalization of a sizeable part of
your constituency and to the unnecessary impoverishment of a a number
of a class of people in your state and districts.
