Observations on CORRE Meeting with DOEJuly 31, 2003 1. Gerald Boyd was a very responsive participant and expressed understanding and support for our minimum pension proposal. We thought he was sympathetic to the whole presentation, and was thinking of how to make the case to Washington. 2. Boyd asked Dan Wilkins to obtain data regarding RETIREE pension benefits from other DOE contractors and how they handled adjustments. This would help DOE develop a position on our request for an adjustment averaging 15%, bringing us to a 75% recovery of a relatively small initial value. (Formula for all current Oak Ridge retirees getting adjustments was 1.2 times years of service.) Bob Worrell will interface with Dan Wilkins on this effort and forthcoming questions and results. 3. Boyd, and all those present, seemed to strongly support the idea of CORRE having membership on the Pension Fund Advisory Board in a non voting capacity. It made sense to them that CORRE needed to keep well informed and provide input. 4. Boyd seemed to understand the need for a DOE "practice" regarding contractor reviews for retiree pension adjustments on a biannual basis. 5. Jim Martin, Director, Business Management Division, NNSA Y-12, gave me us his card and asked that we contact him if we ever had any difficulty obtaining information about pension matters. 6. Dan Wilkins, Assistant Mgr. Administration, DOE, ORO, gave us his card and indicated he is ready to work with us. 7. Linda Ponce, Congressman Wamp's District Director, showed her support. It was obvious she felt we made a strong case for DOE support of CORRE's position. |
