Minutes of CORRE Annual Meeting, October 8, 2003Coalition of Oak Ridge Retired Employees Minutes of Annual Meeting October 8, 2003, 2:00 p.m. Oak Ridge Civic Center Gym The meeting was called to order at 2:00 p.m. by President Charlie Kuykendall, with approximately 450 retirees present. The agenda was as follows:
Kuykendall introduced special guests who were present, and gave each an opportunity to speak briefly. Included were Linda Ponce of Rep. Zach Wamp’s local office; Beth Hickman of Rep. Lincoln Davis’ office in Rockwood; Daryl Boykin, Director of Human Resources at ORNL; and Carl Scarborough, President of ATLC. Kuykendall voiced CORRE’s strong support for the facilities from which we retired and asked for a round of applause in recognition of the significant developments underway at the sites. He reviewed meetings held with DOE and the contractor management and expressed appreciation for their support of our goals and objectives. Mary Helen Rose reported that CORRE’s balance at end of September was $39,240, with 1,868 Active Members. Bob Worrell presented the Nominating Committee’s proposes slate of officers/board members for 2004-2005 (attached). Kuykendall asked for nominations from the floor. John Dabbs moved that nominations be closed, and that the proposed slate be elected by acclamation. The vote was unanimously in favor of electing the slate. Dave Reichle reviewed the list of Actions/Accomplishments, copies of which had been distributed to all retirees, and spoke of future goals and strategies. Pete Lotts reported on actions of the Legislative Committee (Lotts, John Jones, and Dave Reichle). He talked about the Petition that the committee has developed, and urged retirees to assist in obtaining 10,000 signatures. (The petitions were available, and many attendees signed before and after the meeting and took copies to obtain signatures.) Following a period of questions and answers, Kuykendall emphasized that retirees cannot strike or quit their jobs; they can only make their voices heard. He urged attendees to help with the petition and otherwise communicate CORRE’s requests to their legislators. He again emphasized the need for us to support our facilities in Oak Ridge while working toward our goals. Submitted by Mary Helen Rose, Board Secretary/Treasurer
