METLIFE PREFERRED DENTIST PLAN

What is the MetLife Preferred Dentist Program?

The MetLife Preferred Dentist Program (PDP) is a Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) consisting of a nationwide network of over 60,000 carefully credentialed general and specialty dentists. All participating dentists agree to provide services to people in MetLife dental benefit plans at fees that are typically 10-35% below average charges in their communities.

How does it work?

It's easy! Simply go to MetLife's directory of participating dentists on the web at www.metlife.com and identify a dentist near you based on where you live or work and the type of dentist you need. Once you've done so, just call a dentist to make an appointment and let him or her know that you participate in MetLife's dental benefit plan PDP.

Advantages of MetLife Preferred Dental Plan:

·         Lower costs: Generally, when you receive care from a participating dentist, your out-of-pocket expenses will typically be lower than those you would incur if you received services from a non-participating PDP dentist.

·         Flexibility: Unlike many other managed dental benefit programs, you are free to choose any dentist in- or out-of-network at the time of treatment and still receive benefits. You will, however, typically save money when you use an in-network dentist. There are no required lock-ins or the need to receive a referral to see a specialist.

·         Qualified dentists: Participating dentists undergo an extensive credentialing process that reviews practice patterns, sanctions, emergency care arrangements, and malpractice coverage and history. Copies of licenses and specialty training certificates are also required. Participating dentists must agree to strict utilization management and claim review, which help ensure that benefits are paid for appropriate services. Participating dentists are regularly monitored and are subject to recredentialing every three years.

Participating dentists agree to accept the scheduled fee for all services listed in the reimbursement schedule which they perform on covered individuals. They even extend these fees for services not covered under your plan like cosmetic dentistry or orthodontia.

Alzheimer’s Disease

The recent loss of former president Ronald Reagan has put a national spotlight on Alzheimer’s disease.  It is estimated that currently five million people in the U.S. are afflicted with Alzheimer’s disease, and there is no known cure.  Alzheimer’s is a form of dementia, a condition that causes memory loss and impairs intellectual and social functions.  As the country mourns the loss of its fortieth president, Magellan Health Services has provided the attached tip sheets to help raise awareness about this crippling disease.
