Minutes of Board Meeting on March 21, 2007, 2:00 p.m. Oak Ridge Senior Center Present: Mike Bradshaw, Sandy Dean, Bob Henderson, Bob Keil, Judy Kibbe, Keith Kibbe, Charlie Kuykendall, Tom Lemons, Pete Lotts, Fred Postma, Dave Reichle, Mary Helen Rose, Joe Setaro, Fred Shull, Don Wood, Bob Worrell, Paula Wright 1. Opening Remarks. Dave Reichle reported that some Board members met at 9:00 a.m. to watch a presentation of the DVD, which he said was really good. (There are now 2 DVDs that run a total of 2-3/4 hours.) Keith Kibbe will be responsible for developing a strategy and plan for what needs to be done to distribute copies of the DVDs. Reichle encouraged members of the Board to provide contacts for Kibbe. He mentioned that we could have a workshop where DVDs could be viewed and sold. Pete Lotts is working on how the DVD or parts can be transferred to our website. Reichle said we have had suggestions made through the years for having a regular CORRE newsletter, and we have a volunteer who is interested in doing that. 2. Treasurer’s Report. Paula Wright referred to her report, copy of which had been distributed. Balance on hand at end of February was $40,204.62, with only one new member in February. 3. Communications. Sandy Dean noted that both her submitted articles were included in the recent issue of Retiree News, and that she understands from the Treasurer that response to our request for new members has been great. It was decided that CORRE will participate in the Oak Ridge Secret City Festival June 15 and 16. We will request an electrical hookup, so that the DVD can be shown throughout the two days. Board members will be asked to “man” the booth in 2-hour segments. 4. ORNL Benefits Advisory Committee. Fred Shull said a scheduled meeting was cancelled, so he had no report. 5. Legislative Committee. Pete Lotts reported that Charlie Kuykendall, Bob Keil, and Fred Shull met with Congressman Wamp on March 2 and had a very friendly visit. Wamp said we should “keep on keeping on” with our “passionate” efforts. He said we still have his support. The Committee has requested Reichle to ask for a conversation with Helen Hardin as a followup to the meeting. Lotts, Kibbe, and Keil met with Beth Hickman in Congressman Davis’ office to see if there are ways to contact members of Congress on the Democratic side through Congressman Davis. She was very open to helping us, and she will be in touch with the principal legislative assistant in Washington. She was interested in modifications we would propose to the DOE Order. Lotts received a reply to his letter to Ingrid Kolb, DOE-HQ, and distributed copies by e-mail. She stated that DOE-HQ will make any decisions about pension adjustments. Lotts said that Tom Craig of Senator Alexander’s staff earlier said he would probably come to Tennessee in February and meet with us, but did not. We have had no response to three e-mails we have submitted to him. Lotts will probably call Craig this week, and we have also contacted the local office. Keith Kibbe sent a letter to Matt Sonnesyn, who was with Senator Corker’s election campaign but has since returned to his regular job in Alexander’s DC offices. Kibbe also sent a letter to Todd Womack in Corker’s Nashville office; Womack is believed to be Corker’s Director of Communications. We are still waiting to be informed who our contact will be in Senator Corker’s DC staff, and when the promised meeting with Corker will occur. Joe Setaro stated that Jonathan Griswold of Congressman Duncan’s staff requested data on economic impacts of pensions by county, and Setaro has furnished that information. 6. Status of DVD Production. Keith Kibbe stated that the DVD is finished and is longer than anticipated. The amount of material submitted for the DVD was edited down considerably, but it still required two discs. In total, there are about 2 hours and 45 minutes of material broken into 8 sections with lengths varying from about 10 minutes to about 35 minutes each. An Executive Summary is being prepared, which will be in the 10-12 minute range; it will be the first item on Disc #1. 7. Nominating Committee. Chairman Bob Worrell reported that the Committee met and will continue for awhile to meet at 1:00 prior to Board meetings, but has nothing to report as yet. 8. Adjournment. The meeting adjourned at 4:05 p.m., followed by showing of excerpts from the DVD to those persons who could stay. Mary Helen Rose, CORRE Secretary
