Coalition of Oak Ridge Retired Employees
Minutes of Board Meeting on December 20, 2006, 2:00 p.m.
Oak Ridge Senior Center

Present:   Sandy Dean, Judy Kibbe, Keith Kibbe, Charlie Kuykendall, Tom Lemons, Pete Lotts, Ed Mee, Tom Moser, Dave Reichle, Mary Helen Rose, Joe Setaro, Fred Shull, Troy Trotter, Don Wood, Bob Worrell, Paula Wright

1. Opening Remarks.  President Dave Reichle reported that he made a presentation on December 4 to the League of Women Voters Oak Ridge (LWVOR).  He earlier made a request to LWVOR to host jointly with F-ORNL a forum on CORRE issues, but League members were busy with election forums and declined the request.  He was later asked to schedule a talk at a Lunch-with-the-League meeting.

In the latest issue of the Savannah River Newsletter, Ingrid Kolb of DOE-HQ gave a slightly different message than she gave at the DOE meeting at Pellissippi in June.  Pete Lotts offered to write a letter to her asking her to clarify her recent position, and Reichle agreed.

Reichle reported that he sent letters to Dean Eyman and Teresa Riggs informing them that they have not met the attendance requirements in the last year, and that their seats on the Board will be filled with people who can attend meetings more regularly.

Joe Setaro announced that, due to family problems which will require him to be out of town quite a bit, he is resigning his position as First Vice President.  He said the Nominating Committee is aware of this.  He will remain on the Board as a regular member.  Reichle expressed appreciation to Setaro for all his efforts on behalf of CORRE and for covering for him when he was out of town.

Reichle stated that Ed Mee has agreed to head a Membership Committee.  Paula Wright agreed to be a member of the Committee.

2. Nominating Committee.   Bob Worrell, Chair, stated that Fred Shull has agreed to serve as First Vice President, and that Keith Kibbe has agreed to serve on the Board as a regular member.  A motion by Worrell passed to approve the two appointments.

Charlie Kuykendall asked about Advisors.  There was some discussion as to how to get Advisors to come to meetings and be more active.  Reichle said he will be reviewing the list at the beginning of the year.

3. Secretary/Treasurer’s Report.  Mary Helen Rose stated that she will make a joint report for November-December, after which she will give the records to Ken Moore for audit prior to turning them over to Paula Wright as the new Treasurer effective January 1.  She distributed copies of the updated list of Board Members and Advisors.

4. Communications.  Sandy Dean reported that Melissa Leinart has said they are trying to get back on schedule with the Retiree Newsletter.  Sandy said we need to try to generate more articles for the Newsletter and CORRE Corner.

Charlie Kuykendall stated that he sent a copy of the Savannah River Newsletter to Frank Munger (Knoxville News Sentinel), who is still interested in CORRE issues.

5. ORNL Benefits Advisory Committee.   Fred Shull reported that the Committee met this past Monday, December 18.  He said there really wasn’t much discussed of particular interest to retirees, except in an indirect way.   They are looking at vendors to manage the 401K Plan recordkeeping, but have no plans to look at the Pension Trust Fund, as they believe Towers Perrin is doing a good job.

6. Legislative Committee.   Pete Lotts encouraged Board members to display CORRE bumper stickers.  Regarding Congressional contacts, he said the Committee is not going to work on the contacts until after January 1.  Work is still underway on the DVD which Judy and Keith Kibbe are developing.

7. Adjournment.  The meeting adjourned at 3:00 p.m., followed by Holiday refreshments and visiting.
