Minutes of Board Meeting on October 18, 2006, 2:00 p.m. Oak Ridge Senior Center Present: Mike Bradshaw, Sandy Dean, Bob Henderson, Bob Keil, Keith Kibbe, Charlie Kuykendall, Tom Lemons, Pete Lotts, Ed Mee, Ken Moore, Mary Helen Rose, Joe Setaro, Troy Trotter, Don Wood, Bob Worrell, Paula Wright 1. Opening Remarks. Vice-President Bob Keil stated that CORRE officers met with Congressman Ford (Senate candidate), and asked him to sign on as a co-sponsor to HR5362, the DOE Contractor Employees Equitable Treatment Act of 2006, which he has done. Keil called Beth Hickman of Congressman Lincoln Davis’ office and asked him to sign on to the bill, and Congressman Davis is now a co-sponsor. These are the only Congressmen from Tennessee to sign on. Statements from both Senate candidates Bob Corker and Harold Ford, expressing their positions on DOE Contractor Pensions, have been placed on CORRE’s website. 2. Secretary/Treasurer’s Report. Mary Helen Rose highlighted her Treasurer’s report for September, copies of which had been distributed to Board members. Balance as of September 30, 2006, was $39,814.37 with a total of about 2,751 Active Members. 3. Communications. Sandy Dean reported that she has forwarded information about Congressmen Ford and Davis becoming co-sponsors of HR5362 to Frank Munger, and he acknowledged receipt but made no comment. Sandy has asked BWXT Public Relations to send an electronic copy of Retirement News so we can put it on our website. 4. ORNL Benefits Advisory Committee. No report as Fred Shull was out of town. 5. Legislative Committee. Pete Lotts noted that Bob Keil has already mentioned the status of our contacts. We are waiting for further contacts with congressional staff until after the election. Regarding the statements from Senate candidates, Lotts noted that Ford’s statement endorses CORRE’s requests. Lotts suggested a statement of endorsement to Corker’s staff, but it was not included in Corker’s letter. Lotts said that, as reported last month, we have a request in for a meeting with Senator Alexander. He thinks we also need another personal meeting with Congressman Wamp. Lotts introduced Keith Kibbe, who is now on the Legislative Committee. Kibbe reviewed a proposal for him and his wife Judy to develop a DVD. The target audience would primarily be politicians and their staff members, but the DVD could be used for any purpose. It could be watched either on a computer or on a TV screen by using a DVD player. The proposal was discussed, and Kibbe received many suggestions for the DVD. Motion passed to approve production of the DVD by Keith and Judy Kibbe and to reimburse them for costs up to $1,200. Bob Henderson gave packages of CORRE bumper stickers to Board members, asking them to distribute wherever possible. 6. Letter-Writing Workshop. Bob Worrell reported that he and Charlie Kuykendall are still working toward a letter-writing workshop for retirees to be held at the Oak Ridge Civic Center. Keith and Judy Kibbe are preparing some sample letters to be used. They were hoping to hold the workshop in November, but may not be able to do so until after the first of the year. 7. Area Economic Benefits. Joe Setaro noted that we are always trying to find out what the economic benefits of pension increases would be on the local economy. He said the last analysis was for 2004. He contacted UT and found that there will be no report this year, as DOE has not asked for one. We’ll have to continue to use the 2004 report, and the multiplier is 2.26 for every dollar spent. 8. Adjournment. The meeting adjourned at 3:05 p.m. Mary Helen Rose, CORRE Secretary
